I spent a couple of nights last week camping on Seabird Rocks. This small island off the West Coast Trail is the most abundent seabird and oystercatcher nesting site in Pacific Rim National Park.

Carved House Timber from Japanese Tsunami

I finally managed to get back down to the beach to collect this beautifully crafted  timber. It was a long hike to retrieve it but it gave me lots of time to contemplate the tragedy.  I provided a picture of it to a reporter in Tokyo in hope he may be able to locate its previous home. He told me that many homes in Japan are passed on from generation to generation, so there is great attention to detail and pride in the workmanship.
