“Styrofoam Shores” recreates the insidious nature of Styrofoam in the marine environment. Ask anyone who’s ever been on a shoreline cleanup, Styrofoam is public enemy #1. Like the mythical, multi-headed monster Hydra, Styrofoam, once unleashed into the environment, breaks apart into ever-smaller fragments that are virtually impossible to subdue or contain. Making matters worse, marine-based Styrofoam is typically colonized by algae, barnacles and mussels that become a smelly food source attracting birds, bears and other scavengers once it washes ashore. In short order, wind, waves, wildlife and water break it apart, dispersing the light white oily particles into an ever-widening impact zone.
